How to Get the Night Staff in Grow a Garden
The Night Staff isn’t just lying around waiting to be picked up. You’ll need to earn it through the Lunar Glow event by collecting Moonlit Fruit and trading them with the Wise Old Owl in exchange for Lunar Points.
You’ll earn Night Staffs as milestone rewards along the Owl’s reward track:

🥈 Reward #5: 110 Lunar Points
🥇 Reward #11: 250 Lunar Points
🏅 Reward #16: 360 Lunar Points (grants 3 Night Staffs)
So yes, you need Moonlit Fruit to earn the Night Staff, and the Night Staff helps you create more Moonlit Fruit. It’s a bit of a loop, but once you’ve got the first one, things ramp up quickly.
Need help getting started with Moonlit Fruit? Try planting more high-tier crops during Nightfall and make sure your garden is well-lit with mutation tools like Lightning Rods and (once you unlock them) Night Staffs.
What Does the Night Staff Do?
Think of the Night Staff as the lunar counterpart to the Lightning Rod. When Nightfall hits (at the top of every hour and lasting for 10 minutes), the Night Staff will automatically activate and attempt to mutate a nearby crop into Moonlit form.
You’ll hear a ping and see a notification that says:
“Your Night Staff mutated a fruit to Moonlit.”
Mutated fruits glow purple and are the only kind accepted by the Wise Old Owl for Lunar Points.
Each staff has a limited life span and it can trigger up to 6 mutations before it burns out and disappears. The more active you are during Nightfall, the better chance you have of getting full use out of each one.
How to Use the Night Staff
Using the Night Staff is super simple:
- Once unlocked, it’ll appear in your backpack.
- Select it from your inventory or hotbar.
- Place it anywhere in your garden where it can reach crops.
- Wait for Nightfall, and watch the magic happen.
