If you’re still recovering from the chaos of the last chapter, you’re not alone.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo left fans hanging after one of its biggest cliffhangers yet, and naturally everyone has been waiting for Chapter 18 to drop. Unfortunately, it’s not arriving quite as soon as expected.

The good news? We now have a confirmed new release date.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 18 Release Date

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 18 will be released on:

January 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET

The delay isn’t due to any production problems. It’s part of the magazine’s regular one-week break during the Christmas and New Year period. So while it feels painful, this one was always coming.

Why Fans Are So Desperate for Chapter 18

That wait hits harder because Chapter 17 ended with a massive power shift.

The ongoing battle between Tsurugi and Maru finally took center stage, and it quickly turned brutal. Maru dominated most of the fight, pushing Tsurugi to the brink of defeat. This wasn’t sparring. Both fighters were going all out, and Maru nearly ended the fight with sheer overwhelming force.

As Tsurugi lay buried beneath rubble, he flashed back to his father, who disappeared after the birth of Yuka. That moment also included a mysterious appearance by Yuji, who coldly said, “That doesn’t concern me.”

But the emotional weight of that scene was only the setup.

Rika Changes Everything

Just when it looked like Tsurugi was finished, a shadow appeared in front of him.

It was Rika, the Queen of Curses.

She appeared because Tsurugi was wearing Yuta’s ring, but she didn’t arrive happily. Rika clearly didn’t like being summoned. Still, she answered the call, because otherwise Tsurugi would have died right there.

Rika offered Tsurugi a Binding Vow.

When Tsurugi said, “I accept,” everything changed.

His already immense physical strength merged with Rika’s cursed energy, creating a terrifying new form. And in that state, Tsurugi sent Maru flying with a single punch.

Up to that point, Tsurugi’s Heavenly Restriction was no match for Maru. But with Rika in play, the entire fight flipped on its head.

For the first time, Tsurugi actually has a real chance to win.

What Chapter 18 Needs to Answer

With Rika now bound to Tsurugi, Chapter 18 is set up to answer some huge questions:

  • How long can this fusion last?
  • What price will Tsurugi pay for the Binding Vow?
  • Can Maru counter a Queen of Curses?

And most importantly… what does Yuji’s cryptic appearance mean?

We’ll finally start getting those answers on January 18, 2026.

The wait hurts, but after that ending, it’s going to be worth it.

What is Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is basically Jujutsu Kaisen’s “what if?” universe, but turned up to eleven.

It is not a sequel.
It is not filler.
And it is not just a spin-off for fun.

Modulo is an official alternate-timeline manga that takes the world of Jujutsu Kaisen and bends it. Familiar rules still apply, cursed energy still works the same way, and legendary characters still exist, but events don’t unfold the way they did in the main story.

Think of it as Jujutsu Kaisen running in a different reality.

Same ingredients.
Different outcomes.

What makes Modulo different

In the main Jujutsu Kaisen timeline, characters are shaped by fate, curses, and a rigid power structure. Modulo asks a dangerous question:

What if those rules broke?

In Modulo:

  • Heavenly Restrictions don’t always limit people
  • Binding Vows don’t always behave safely
  • And some characters exist in roles they were never meant to have

It introduces new fighters like Tsurugi and Maru, while also re-using major figures like Yuji, Yuta, and Rika in ways that feel familiar… and completely wrong at the same time.

That’s why Rika showing up in Chapter 17 was such a big deal. In the main timeline, Rika belongs to Yuta. In Modulo, she answers someone else.

And that changes everything.

Why fans are obsessed with it

Modulo is darker, riskier, and way more unpredictable than the main series.

There’s no guarantee anyone survives.
There’s no plot armor.
And even legendary curses can end up in the hands of people who should never wield them.

Because it is an alternate reality, Gege Akutami is free to do things he could never do in canon:

  • Kill characters early
  • Let villains win
  • Flip power hierarchies
  • Turn heroes into monsters

Every fight in Modulo feels dangerous because the story has no safety net.

How it fits into Jujutsu Kaisen

Modulo doesn’t replace the main story.
It runs alongside it.

It exists to explore:

  • What happens when cursed energy is pushed too far
  • What happens when Binding Vows are abused
  • What happens when powerful spirits choose the wrong people

It’s Jujutsu Kaisen without destiny protecting anyone.
