Rockstar Games has done it again, literally. GTA 6, one of the most anticipated video games of all time, has been delayed once more. The new release date? November 19, 2026.
That’s another six-month wait on top of the last delay, meaning the game’s been pushed back a full year from its original 2025 window.
Rockstar Says It Needs “More Time to Polish”
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Rockstar confirmed the news, saying:
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
It’s a familiar line for fans of the studio — the same company that delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 several times before it became one of the most critically acclaimed games ever made.
So, yes. It’s frustrating, but it might also be worth it.
Take-Two CEO Explains the Delay
Speaking to The Game Business, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the latest delay and tried to reassure fans:
“When we set a date, we really do believe in it. We said when we set the last date, if a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time. And that’s exactly what happened.”
Zelnick went on to emphasize that Rockstar is confident in the new timeline:
“We feel really good about this release date. It’s in the same fiscal year, it happens to be a great release window, and naturally, we’re really supportive of Rockstar’s approach.”
He also noted that the lengthy lead-up gives the team plenty of time to start marketing — and to make sure players “know exactly when to expect it.”
What This Means for Fans
GTA 6 was originally supposed to drop in Fall 2025, then got bumped to May 2026 — and now November. That’s a full extra year of waiting for fans who’ve been counting down since the game’s first trailer shattered YouTube records.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Rockstar, though, it’s that it rarely misses when it finally ships something. The studio’s obsession with detail and cinematic storytelling has defined modern open-world gaming — and the bar for GTA 6 couldn’t be higher.
Rumors are already swirling that Rockstar may drop a new GTA 6 trailer soon to ease the pain. Nothing’s confirmed, but given how the company handled previous delays, don’t be surprised if we see something fresh in the next few weeks.
The Bottom Line
It’s disappointing, no doubt. But if waiting a few extra months means GTA 6 launches as the masterpiece fans expect, it might be the right call.
New release date: November 19, 2026.
*Fingers crossed it sticks this time.
